Rainy Day Cartoons

It is a rainy curl up on the couch kind of day around here and what better way to spend a lazy Sunday than eating a bowl of sugary cereal and watching some cartoons.

I am a fan of the new My Little Pony Friendship is Magic series but, sometimes it is nice to pull out the old school 80s episodes for the sake of nostalgia. If I'm not in a pony mood, I'll likely reach for The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin. Both make a lovely way to spend the day.

Do you have a favorite 80s series? Any recommendations for me to expand my rainy day viewing?

My Fugitive Flowers

Today was declared yard work day at our house since the weather was unseasonably warm and our poor yard and landscaping desperately needed some attention. As I was wrestling with my massively overgrown rosebushes in an attempt to cut them back for the winter, I couldn't help but laugh as I found myself thinking about the "Fugitive Flowers" episode of My Little Pony and Friends.

For those not familiar with this episode (and I pity you if you have not been exposed to it in all its 80s-product-hocking glory) it can briefly be summarized as the following:

Flower loving Pony (Posey) takes pity on talking pathetic scrawny flowers who are actually escaped convicts and plants them in her garden. The flowers deplete the garden of all nutrients, kill the other plants and become rude enormous bully flowers. When all seems lost, a troop of gargantuan law enforcement crabs (yes, I said crabs) round up the deviant flowers and take them away. Posey then learns an important lesson through song about not judging people ( or um...flowers or crabs) based solely on their appearance.

So as I was cursing my rosebushes for getting so ridiculously large this year I was also kinda wishing I had a giant crab on hand since my fiskar hedge trimmers were pretty dull. Plus, I found myself with this song in my head:

In short........Summer-1, Rosebushes-0

But it wasn't a rock... It was a rock, rock pony!

Or Pony rock? Or pet rock pony?

Needless to say, this auction for a My Little Pony inspired Pet Rock is one of the strangest Pony Themed items I've ever seen listed on Ebay. I guess when Pinkie Pie is your muse you've got to expect the unexpected.

The absurdity of it made me giggle and I hope it (she?) finds a loving home.

Does adding ponies to a room make it a "Pony Room?"

When Fathead released a set of My Little Pony FIM wall graphics earlier this year, my initial reaction was something along the lines of "That's fun for a child's room." Not so much because I am above adorning my walls with images of ponies, but more so because I have a very strict rule of no ponies outside the Pony Room and wall space is premium real estate in that place. Given the choice between erecting new display shelving or slapping pony stickers on an empty wall, shelves will win every time.

Fast forward a few months, and now I find myself plotting a full take over of the main floor office. It is currently painted in murals of flowers and weeping willows. The previous owner used the room as a child's bedroom. I've never been a fan, but for lack of inspiration it hasn't been touched since we moved in almost two years ago. Plus, it has really high ceilings and if I'm going to spend that much time balancing myself and a paint roller on a ladder taller than a step stool, I better be committed to the idea. I'm thinking since I spend most of my time in the office working on My Little Pony projects, why not just embrace it and share the space with Twilight Sparkle and the gang?

I've assured my husband that pony wall graphics do not equal "My Little Pony Room Part 2", but I don't think he is entirely convinced.

Yet More Shameful Pony Dealings

Wow, I can't believe it is already the middle of November. Time has definitely gotten away from me as I haven't posted on the MLPCollector Blog in months! I've been trying to keep things balanced between teaching, planning the 2012 My Little Pony Fair, and being a mom. I have managed to check in at http://www.mlparena.com/ and http://www.mlptp.net/ from time to time, but not as much as I'd like.

I have managed to keep up on the newest My Little Pony releases and I'm really digging Wave 4. I found Feathermay, Flitterheart, Honeybuzz, Plumsweet, Snowcatcher, and Twinkleshine the other day while shopping at Meijer. Someone had stocked them, but they weren't in the system yet and the cashier told me that they weren't allowed to sell them. I wasn't about to let these girls be carted off to some back room where they'd wait to be keyed into the system and then placed onto the shelves. My life is way too hectic to make a daily trip to Meijer to stalk the toy aisles... There was a time and place for that (college) but, it is no longer an option. I may or may not have given the cashier in question an evil glare prompting him to call the toy department and nervously mutter the pony names into the receiver. Apparently, I am not above intimidating awkward teenagers when it comes to My Little Ponies. Shameful.

I am going to make a concerted effort to blog over the next few weeks since I feel like I need to reconnect with my neglected pony peeps. I hope you all are doing well!
