Discovery Family to Air "MY LITTLE PONY: A Very Minty Christmas" on December 13th

To kick of their holiday line-up, Discovery Family will be showing "MY LITTLE PONY: A VERY MINTY CHRISTMAS" on December 13th at 7PM ET/ 6 PM CT. While this special stars the G3 incarnation of MY LITTLE PONY, instead of the current G4 "Friendship is Magic" line, it still has its merits and will be a fun watch for all.

Did you know that the title of character, Minty, is voiced by Tabitha St. Germain who currently voices the character of Rarity in the MY LITTLE PONY: Friendship is Magic series? Have fun watching Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash in their previous G3 incarnations! With Ponies, Santa, and a song about Christmas Socks, this cute holiday special is sure to be a hit with your little ones.

In addition to MY LITTLE PONY: A VERY MINTY CHRISTMAS, Discovery Family’s special holiday programming includes the premieres of LITTLEST PET SHOP (Season 3) “Winter Wonder” on December 13 at 12:30 p.m. and TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS (Season 2) “The Riders of Winter” on December 13 at 1 p.m.

Cyber Monday Pony Deals!

Toys R Us is currently running a 20% off sale on all POP figures. This seems to include both he Hasbro Pony Pop figures as well as the Funko Pony Pop figures. Plus, you can qualify for free shipping on all purchases over $49.

I know I am still missing a few of the Hasbro Pony Pop items, so I guess it is time to head to the Gigantic Mess Room Pony Room and do a quick inventory!

You will find a slew of other MLP Cyber Monday discounts through Toys R Us (plush, regular brushables, minis, and random merchandise.)

The two things I added to my cart that I'm most excited about are these:

Trixie with Light Up Horn: On sale for $18.74
Rarity with Light up Horn: On sale for $18.74

They are just strange looking. Who thought it was a good idea to put a big hard plastic light up horn on plush ponies?! Plus, I haven't yet seen these available in person.

Target is having a Buy One Get One 50% off sale on MLP, but their stock isn't anything too new.

Kmart is the Cyber Monday winner as they are having a 40% online sale for all MLP and Equestria Girls. Their stock also includes the Rainbow Rocks Stage and these new packs for $8.09 which is the best price I have seen on them so far:

Happy Shopping!

Christmas Decorating:My Little Pony Style!

We have five inches of snow outside. Instead of hunkering down under a pile of blankets, I decided it was time to break out the Christmas decorations. We have three trees to house all of our ornaments: one for my husband's Star Wars ornaments, one for the MY LITTLE PONY ornaments, and the main tree which is a hodgepodge of Hallmark ornaments gathered and gifted over the years.

The PONY tree is undoubtedly my favorite and I'm always so happy to unpack them each year and enjoy them during the Christmas Season. Out of all of my MLP merchandise items, I feel like the Christmas ornaments have the most purpose because it's not like I brush my teeth with a vintage Heart Throb battery operated toothbrush or use a G1 duffle as my gym bag.

I've added some new additions to the PONY tree this year including this awesome Fluttershy holiday light set! I picked this set up at Toys R Us and love it. My PONY tree is only four foot tall, so I only purchased one set and it was just the right size. The packaging claims that the light set is approved for indoor and outdoor use, so I suppose someone could go nuts and Fluttershy their house for the holidays, but it won't be me.

My mother-in -law gifted me the Hallmark Cotton Candy ornament this year and I've picked up a handful of new G4 ornaments as well that will be finding their way onto the tree as soon as I remember where I put them...

Do you have a MLP Christmas tree or do you use Ponies to decorate for the holidays? If so, I'd love to hear about it and see pictures if you have them!

Happy Birthday, Bonnie!

A few years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Bonnie Zacherle, the creator of MY LITTLE PONY. She is a wonderfully funny, talented, and sweet person and I feel lucky to call her a friend. Her innovative idea of small cuddly ponies with brushable manes shaped my childhood and those of millions of others around the world.

While playing a table topics game with my extended family during the Christmas of 2012, I was asked to name three people (living or deceased) with whom I would like to spend a day. I instantly answered Bonnie Zacherle and Walt Disney, but was at a loss for a third.

A few months later in April of 2013, I was given the opportunity to visit Bonnie Zacherle in her home. I was beyond excited to be spending the day with her, chatting about the history of MY LITTLE PONY, and even getting to see and hold her original PONY prototype models. I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so big in a photo!

Since that first meeting, I’ve had the pleasure of hosting Bonnie at the 2013 and 2014 MY LITTLE PONY Fair and traveling with her to New York last spring. I feel grateful to have met Bonnie and I look forward to many more visits and chats in the future. She is an amazing lady and deserves to be celebrated.

Happy Birthday, Ms. Bonnie Zacherle! I hope you have a lovely day.

Purging Ponies

If you haven't quite caught on yet... I have a lot of Ponies. In addition to collecting them because I find them sweet and fun and reminiscent of my childhood, I also gather up items to photograph for the My Little Pony Collector Inventory Series books.

There was a time in my life when I needed every release of Pinkie Pie to feel accomplished in my little collecting bubble and I enjoyed each and every one equally. If a version came with an alternate colored accessory or a new hat, I was off on the hunt tracking it down for the joy of finally acquiring it and adding it to my collection. Nowadays, I'm still hunting just as feverishly, but it is usually for the sole purpose of photographing a particular release both in and out of package for my books. I still love Ponies and I still collect them, but I've reached a point where I'm content with one of each character in each pose. This unfortunately creates an issue of excess.

Unlike fishing where you have the option of catch and release, my hobby requires the acquisition but I can't simply just throw the ponies back. Well, technically I suppose I could, but that wouldn't make economic sense and it really goes against the inner collector in me.

I need to commit to an outlet to purge my seemingly unending supply of reissued Pony characters, Pony merchandise that I've decided to downsize, and other collection items that no longer fit into my collecting vision. There are a multitude of options for online selling including message boards, Ebay, Amazon, Etsy... the list goes on and on. If you had lots of Pony items to sell, which selling platform would you choose and why?

My Little Pony Magnetic Dress-Up & Playhouse Castle for the Win!

Every great once in a while, a piece of Pony merchandise will catch my attention and it finds its way into my collection. Over the past few years I've grown much more discerning when it comes to purchasing licensed merchandise. It boils down to an issue of quantity and quality for me. First, I simply don't have the space to gather up every Pony licensed product. I have a strict, "Ponies belong in the Pony Room" rule, and they are not allowed to spill out into other areas. Plus, given that Hasbro grants so many licenses to companies to use the MLP imaging on products ranging from toothbrushes to art supplies, to bedding, it would be overwhelming to keep up with it all. Second, the quality of the products range from okay to really great and I've learned to pick and choose over the years. Just because it has a Pony on it, doesn't mean that I feel the desire to own it.

Despite my hesitation to add new merchandise pieces to my collection, sometimes I come across something that I just can't leave behind. Yesterday, while I was shopping at Sam's Club I came across this Magnetic Dress-Up & Playhouse Castle and it immediately ended up in my cart.

It is adorable! It takes the nostalgic appeal of paper dolls and modernizes it with magnets. All of the pieces are wooden to avoid wear and tear, and the large 6-7inch tall figures (Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Twilight Sparkle) come with attached wooden stands so they remain upright during play.

In addition to fun outfits, shoes, accessories (75 pieces total) and a wooden storage tray that doubles as another play area, the set comes with a wooden house that has attachable tip-resistant supports and adorable decals of Sugar Cube Corner. I honestly can't say enough good things about this product. Plus, the price was, in my opinion, a terrific value. The set retails for $19.99 and is licensed by Artistic Studios, Ltd.

My three year old son and I had a great time mixing and matching outfits on the ponies while he created a storyline involving the Ponies going Trick-or-Treating (inspired by the adorable jack-o-lantern candy bucket accessory.) I will definitely be picking up a few more of these sets to give as holiday gifts to the little girls on my gift list. I'm so happy to see such a great quality product for Pony fans!

MY LITTLE PONY Fair 2015 Gallops to Chicago!

I'm excited to announce that the 12th annual MY LITTLE PONY Fair and Convention will be held in Chicago, Illinois on June 27th and 28th! In addition to our regular weekend festivities, we will once again be hosting the Celebration Dinner and Hall of Fame Ceremony on Friday night (June 26th) so if you'd like to attend the dinner, make sure to plan your travel arrangements accordingly.

For those who are wanting to book their airfare right this minute instead of waiting until the hotel details are released, I can share with you that the Chicago O'Hare airport will be the closest option for you to fly into to. I think everyone will be very happy with this year's venue and as soon as we get the reservation link from the property, we will share the venue and you can begin to book your rooms.

I love that so many of you were right on with your guesses for the location especially after I posted this picture as a hint:

Although, I thought it was hilarious that some were really trying to make the hint harder than it was. I had people looking up wind statistics of cities in the US and coming up with some remote places that I've never heard of before.

I'm already excited about this year's possibilities! We've already gotten attendance confirmation from a very special guest that you will not want to miss (especially if you are a fan of a certain cartoon that stars our favorite PONY friends!) and we are working on SO many other awesome things! I can't wait to share them with you all. I'm also working on a much needed website overhaul that will hopefully go live before the first of the year.

Here's the official announcement for the Fair location in case you missed it on the Fair Facebook page:
"Mark Your Calendars! The 2015 MY LITTLE PONY Fair will take place on June 27th and 28th in Chicago, IL! Additional information, including hotel booking details, will be posted in the coming weeks. Looking forward to seeing you at this year's event!

On the Horizon: Pony Fair 2015

I just returned from a weekend trip to tour a potential 2015 Fair site. I was very impressed by both the location, amenities offered, and the friendliness and excitement of the staff about the possibility of hosting our event. I put in a call earlier this morning to the local business licensing office to get the details for their licensing process. After the hoops I had to jump through last year in Franklin, Tennessee, I want to be sure that the process is straightforward. The run around that I had to deal with last year was exhausting.

For those who may be anxiously awaiting the location announcement, here is a hint:

Anyway, I'm very excited about this location and I really hope that it works out on all fronts. Mary and I had some terrific meals and some great buys from our impromptu shopping trip to the local outlet mall. Overall, I think our visit was a success! The Fair has grown so much in the past few years and it requires me to start planning for the next year earlier and earlier. While I love having a break to sit back relax, and reflect on what can make the next event even better, it is nice to hit the ground running and get things organized early instead of rushing around.

Here's to successful 2015 Pony Fair planning!

Do You Know Why G1 Ponies Have Tail Washers? I Do!!

One of the perks of running the Fair is the ability to be able to have lots of Pony conversations with the Guests of Honor. It is crazy the little tidbits about Pony that both Bonnie Zacherle and Liz Knight have shared during our conversations. One such fact was why the G1s have tail washers.

According to Liz (and Bonnie confirmed this), when they first made the original 6 Ponies(Cotton Candy, Minty, etc.) they noticed that they kept falling over on their faces because their heads were too heavy and the Ponies weren't balanced. To solve this issue, someone in the office suggested putting a weight on the inside of the pony near the Pony's back legs so it would stand upright without falling on its nose. The end solution was the tail washer, which was also incorporated into how the hair was installed to make it appear fuller (so the tail washer ended up pulling double duty of the first six ponies!)
I thought this was a pretty neat little Pony fact. :)
* I found this photo that illustrated perfectly what a tail washer is and its location in a pony on Sail-Away's Harbor. There was also a step by step tutorial for removing a pony's head and tail, but thankfully not how to dissect a Pony into halves. :)

Where I've Been, What I'm Doing, and Where I'm Going

I'm finally caught up on orders for the MY LITTLE PONY Fair Online Store. This year, I tried a different selling platform, Ecwid, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. It makes orders much more organized (which I'm all for!) FYI- If you need a 2014 MLP Fair Logo Pin, go order one now since they are almost completely sold out.

My garage is still a disaster and it kind of looks like the Fair exploded in it. There are tubs strewn all about because I refuse to put everything back into storage until it is packaged correctly. Otherwise, it will make more work for me in the spring when I drag it all out again to get it ready for the 2015 event.

Speaking of the 2015 MLP Fair, I have no clue where it will be. I keep getting emails asking me if I can secretly share next year's location. The trouble is, I don't even know where we'll be setting up yet. I'm sending out some preliminary requests for proposals this week, and I might get an awesome offer that I just can't refuse. Or, the hunt will continue for the best venue for the best price because honestly folks, it all comes down to the money.

In addition to sending out my Fair RFPs this week, I will officially get back to work on my MLP Euro guide for the MY LITTLE PONY Collector's Inventory Series. It has been pushed back for far too long. I also will be working on the newest G4 guide piecemeal as well, but since we don't have a hard and fast deadline for that project, I'll be focusing on the Euro guide.

As far as events are concerned, I believe I will be attending the Michigan MY LITTLE PONY event at the end of September and I may also be going to the Lexington, Kentucky event in early September if there is enough interest to get that off the ground. I'm a bit bummed that the Cincinnati event isn't on the calendar this year, but it seems like the organizers needed a break and just didn't have the time or energy to get it up and going this year. I can definitely relate to that feeling.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and give some updates on what's been happening and what's to come.

Hasbro Selling My Little Pony 3-D "Fan Art"

Hasbro has announced that they will collaborate with 3-D printing company, Shapeways, to sell mass produced MY LITTLE PONY custom ponies/artwork. So, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I'm excited that there will be the opportunity for fans to have characters that otherwise, may never be available. On the other hand, it makes for a collector nightmare. Do I consider these "official" releases since they have to be approved by Hasbro?

It seems like a cool idea, but is this just the toy equivalent of We Love Fine?

Here's the link to the New York Times article that gives all the details of this new business venture: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/21/business/hasbro-selling-my-little-pony-fan-art.html?_r=2

MY LITTLE PONY Fair 2014 Costume Contest!

The 2014 MY LITTLE PONY Fair has ended and was a great success with record breaking attendance! I couldn't be more pleased with how everything came together after putting so much work into the event. There were so many great moments at this year's event and hopefully, I'll be blogging more frequently to document them all.

First off, Crumlic Media posted a video of the MY LITTLE PONY Costume Parade and Contest that really showcases all of the amazing costumes that people created this year. I mean, WOW! The costumes this year were unparalleled.

New Aurora Plush Ponies Hit Stores

I first came across these adorable plush clip on Ponies at an airport gift shop on my way home from Florida. With their small scale, they are perfect to take along on the go. They come with an attached clip that allows you to secure them to whatever you wish. I imagine they will find their way attached to many a backpack or purse strap, and if my child was still itty bitty and in a carrier, I have no doubt that they would have been clipped to his car seat. What I like best about these small scale huggables is that Aurora didn't skimp on the details. From Rarity's tiny mane curl to Applejack's hair bows, they really did a nice job making sure to add the extra touches.

Back from 2013, are the 10inch plush Ponies and the smaller scale Pony with carry bag. Both are beautiful and it is no wonder why Aurora released them as part of their 2014 line-up. The unique feature of the Aurora plush Ponies compared to the other plush Ponies out there is that Aurora's are girly and pretty. They add a little sparkle and shine with their fabric choices and the result is something a little unexpected and a little fancy.

My favorite addition to Aurora's MY LITTLE PONY product line for 2014 is the new sitting pony pose. Aurora is the first company to attempt G4 sitting plush ponies and they have executed them beautifully. I just imagine this lovely Twilight Sparkle sitting on top of a little girls duvet waiting for her to return from school and it makes me happy. Again, the quality and detail on these is superb. The only suggestion I'd add is that I'd like to see a few additional characters join in the mix just for variety. Even if it was just 2 or 3 different Pony characters, it would add some fun and novelty when you are out and about when you spot a character outside the Mane 6.

A few of these lovelies will be added to a free giveaway on the MY LITTLE PONY Fair Facebook page later tonight! Click on the Giveaway tab to enter and remember, you can enter once per day until the contest ends so enter often to increase your chances of winning!

"We are excited to announce our 2014 MY LITTLE PONY Fair Guest of Honor and 2014 MY LITTLE PONY Fair Hall of Fame inductee, Liz Knight!

Liz Knight joined Hasbro in 1981, just as Bonnie Zacherle was working on a smaller version of My Pretty Pony which became, My Little Pony. Ms. Knight designed several beloved MY LITTLE PONY characters including: Seashell, Bubbles, Bow Tie, Applejack, Sunbeam, Medley, Twilight, Glory, Firefly, Moondancer, Parasol, Starshine, Windy, Sunlight, SkyDancer, and Moonstone. She also designed the Show Stable and Waterfall playsets. In addition, Ms. Knight was responsible for the design of the SeaPonies: Seawinkle, Sealight, and Wavedancer!

In 2003, she returned to Hasbro for 3 months to help on Secret Central and as Director on My Little Pony. Soon after, she was hired fulltime as Director on Playskool and stayed there for several years. In 2005, Ms. Knight became VP of Girls’ Toys and managed the team working on My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, Easy Bake, Strawberry Shortcake, FurReal, CareBears, and Baby Alive.
