Accessory Madness!

If you read My Little Pony Collector with any frequency, you are already aware of my obsession with My Little Pony accessories. I love them! I can't get enough of the tiny toothbrushes, bitty bottles, glittery wands, or Big Brother bandannas. They are just too cute to resist and really fun to sort.

I have a reoccurring dream that I find a huge bin of pony accessories and am filled with happiness because I get to dump them out and figure out which accessory came with which pony. Some people dream about winning the lottery...I dream about grasshopper combs. Don't judge.

I've been meaning to share some photos of my accessory storage organization system ever since I blogged about my Ponywear organization mission. For the first time ever, all of my My Little Pony accessories are organized, I've checked them off in my handy dandy My Little Pony G1 Collector's Inventory book, and I've compiled a very detailed wish list for missing items. Now if I only had the spare time to search for the missing items, I'd be set.

I use these handy storage drawer containers made by a company called Akro-Mils. They have a variety of storage products, but I like to use the 24 drawer units. A few years ago, I was able to find them at Target, but the stores in my area no longer carry them. I did find them through Amazon for about the same price I paid.

Every pony set gets its own labeled drawer (in a few cases I have 2 sets share a drawer if there is lots of extra room in a drawer.) Do you notice the pink M Tape? I am still all about my labeler. One of my favorite things!

I assign a small clear baggie to each pony and put their name on the front and then place all of that pony's accessories inside as I check them off in The My Little Pony G1 Collector's Inventory . Currently, I haven't switched out all of the individual pony baggie labels with M Tape labels yet, but I hope to soon when I have some extra time. I love having all the little pieces correctly marked and easy to find.

Feel free to share your pony organization ideas. I'd love to see what other collector do!

Organized Chaos!

You know how I often lament over the shameful condition of my office and my never ending quest to have an orderly workspace...

Here is my desk in all its chaotic messiness. The funny thing is that I know exactly where to find what I'm looking for. Still, there is no excuse for this insanity and by posting it for all the world to see hopefully it will shame me into getting things looking more professional.

I find it hysterical that there are three laptops on this desk. Apparently, I am so intense that I need multiple machines to do my bidding.

A Little Crazy About G1 Ponywear

It is no secret that my favorite My Little Pony generation is G1. While I practice "All Generation Appreciation" and actively collect from all generations, G1 will always be number one. I'm sure it is due to a mix of nostalgia as well as the thrill of never reaching the end. If I finish one part of my collection, I can simply change my collecting focus.

I've been spending some time organizing my accessories and Ponywear lately and I may be going a bit overboard in my attempt to organize. You may remember back in January when I posted about my wondrous labeler and how it is amazing and how much I love it. Anyway, I used said labeler with my Ponywear collection and I'm loving the results. It has inspired me to finish my Greek Ponywear collection just so I can make more labels (I think this may or may not be a sign of a problem). Regardless, check out some pictures of my organizational madness:

In this photo you can see the sets divided into plastic sleeves. If the outfit has shoes or other plastic pieces that could possibly leach color onto the fabrics, those items are placed in a smaller baggie inside the larger plastic sleeve and then each outfit is labeled by set name and individual outfit name. Each set has it's own drawer (which is of course labeled.)
Here is a photo of all three plastic drawer units. I haven't finished sorting my Euro Ponywear yet(hence the two unlabeled drawers in the unit on the right.)

I purchased these drawers at Walmart last fall for around $10 each and then all three drawer units fit perfectly inside a storage shelf that I purchased at Target. The storage shelves were on clearance and I think I paid about $6 each for them.

This shelf is basically the same as the shelf unit I bought, but a little pricier since the exact shelf units that I have are discontinued.

These are the same plastic drawers I purchased (a little cheaper than what I paid.)

You can also use your handy dandy copy of The My Little Pony G1 Collector's Inventory to identify and check off your Ponywear pieces. :)

I challenge you to dig out your Ponywear and accessories and get organized and then list your extras on Ebay so myself and the other accessory addicts can buy them!

The Ponydex Review

The Ponydex was created by a member of the MLPArena and is an online database that allows MLP collectors to track their collections, add photos, and make notes on condition, price paid, or other useful information. Users can also enter ponies available for trade or sale into their accounts and the program will match up traders or buyers and sellers. The Beta version of The Ponydex went live in February and so far over 5,000 ponies have been entered into the database. Membership is free and the site owners request that if you are a MLPArena member that you register with the same user name you use on the MLPArena.

Pros: The Ponydex is easy to use and the design is very straightforward and uncluttered. I like that users are required to take their own photos of items and I'm sure that users will find the notes section particularly useful if their are in the market to upgrade a certain collection item or attempting to keep an eye on their buying habits. The search function could be helpful for collectors who are looking for a particular pony to purchase.

Cons: While this system is ideal for a beginning collector, it would take ages to for someone with a sizable collection to enter the detailed profiles on every pony and upload photos and a collector book, or checklist would better serve as a time saving alternative. However, The Ponydex could still be used to list trade and sale items. The amount of items listed for sale or trade at the moment is few, but this may increase overtime as site traffic increases and collectors realize the potential of this feature.

All in all, I think that The Ponydex is a great online resource for My Little Pony collectors and look forward to seeing it further develop.
